Emma Finnegan

Emma has a BSc. (Hons) Degree in Health Sciences and Nutrition and is currently completing a Research Masters investigating the ‘Role of Nutrition in Concussion Recovery and Management’ under the supervision of Dr Lisa Ryan. Emma was awarded a postgraduate scholarship from Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology in January 2021. She is extremely passionate about the fundamental impact nutrition, and fitness behaviours have on physical and personal wellbeing, with over six years of experience in the health and Nutrition sector. Before embarking on her career with GMIT, Emma has worked with UCD on the Childhood Obesity Surveillance Initiative (COSI) and the University Ulster on Vitamin D research.

Furthermore, she provides nutrition consultancy throughout various academic, sports, wellbeing, and food sectors. Emma is a volunteer co-chairs on the nutrition sub group as part of the staff and student Healthy Campus committee in ATU. While she also coaches underage ladies football teams and runs fitness classes and active wellness charity events. Emma has a vast amount of experience working with start-up companies and has worked with numerous successful entrepreneurs in the Irish health and fitness industry. In addition to this, she works as a brand ambassador for a whole food start-up company in Galway, Ireland, and enjoys supporting local start-up companies.

Emma works as a research assistant in Atlantic Technological University for several Erasmus+ projects and has extensive experience in project coordination and execution. She works in conjunction with the Project Manager and Consortium to manage and deliver the project outputs. Emma is highly skilled in business start-up, marketing, branding and project coordination. She manages the project marketing and dissemination activities to guarantee that projects and their outputs successfully reach a broad audience and achieve their anticipated impact. Additionally, she has worked on research in Rural Entrepreneurship in the West of Ireland with the EMPOWER Program and on a bilateral project supporting functional food entrepreneurship in Vietnam.
